Wearables & Remote Monitoring

Wearables and remote monitoring is led in the confirmed data by continuous glucose monitoring (Dexcom, Abbott and Medtronic's MiniMed), alongside consumer-origin wearable platforms (Garmin, Apple, Zepp) and diversified medtech groups such as Philips. The most material confirmed items are Medicare's competitive bidding for CGMs, with lower reimbursement expected from 2028, Medtronic's separation of MiniMed, and Philips' unresolved Respironics investigations. Recent confirmed activity is thin outside Medtronic, Garmin and Apple, and several leaders have no recent activity on record.

Active institutional exposure flipped from a net outflow of $1.5 billion in Q1 2026 to a net inflow of $3.2 billion in Q2 2026. 45.5% of companies in this sub-theme saw increased active positions in Q2 2026.

Overview

Wearables and remote monitoring covers connected devices that track physiological signals continuously or outside the clinic, produce digital biomarkers and feed remote clinical management. The sub-theme has three structural layers. The first is sensor-based chronic-disease devices, where continuous glucose monitoring is the clearest example. Dexcom, Abbott's Diabetes Care division and Medtronic's MiniMed group sell competing CGM systems. Dexcom and Abbott have cross-licensed analyte-sensing patents, and Medtronic also partners with Abbott on CGM options within its diabetes pipeline. The second layer is multi-purpose wearable platforms from Garmin, Apple, Samsung, Google's Fitbit and Zepp Health, which compete in fitness products. Only some of these have health-specific product leadership. The third layer is large diversified medtech groups, such as Philips with sleep and respiratory devices and enterprise informatics, and GE HealthCare, Boston Scientific and Masimo, for which the confirmed data shows little direct linkage to remote monitoring. Value in the sub-theme depends on sensor accuracy, regulatory clearance, payer reimbursement and the handling of personal health data. Hardware supply chains and trade policy also matter, since the devices are physical products.
