Factory AI Systems

Factory AI Systems covers the hardware, software and automation platforms that bring AI into production environments, from machine vision and industrial control to warehouse robotics and process analytics. The established participants are large industrial and technology incumbents that compete heavily with one another. Recent activity centers on Cognex's RealSense acquisition and on industrial AI investment at Siemens and Rockwell Automation. Tariffs, export controls, customer concentration and the reliability of physical-world AI are the main constraints.

Active institutional funds cut a net $4.0 billion in Q2 2026, versus $4.1 billion in Q1 2026 — an outflow 4% smaller. 33.3% of companies in this sub-theme saw decreased active positions in Q2 2026.

Overview

Factory AI Systems is the layer of technology that applies AI to quality control, process optimization and the operation of connected factories and logistics facilities. It is not a single product category. It spans several tiers: sensing and data capture (Cognex and Zebra compete in fixed industrial scanning and machine vision); industrial automation and control (Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Honeywell, ABB and Emerson are named as major competitors in industrial automation); process control, yield management and manufacturing analytics, especially in semiconductors (PDF Solutions, Applied Materials and KLA compete in this space, with Siemens a named collaboration partner of PDF Solutions); warehouse automation (Symbotic, which competes with Honeywell); enterprise AI and workflow automation software (C3.ai, UiPath); and the semiconductors that underpin industrial equipment (Texas Instruments). Siemens is the one participant classified as a leader. The remaining participants are enablers that supply a component, platform or channel rather than owning the full factory stack. The sub-theme is structurally crowded and overlapping. Participants compete across adjacent layers while partnering for integration, for example Zebra with Manhattan Associates, PDF Solutions with SAP, and UiPath with large cloud and enterprise software vendors.
